French Foreign Minister inspect the aftermath of settler attack in al-Bireh

AL-BIREH, November 7, 2024 (WAFA) -  French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot Thursday evening inspected the aftermath of a recent settlers’ attack in the occupied West Bank city of al-Bireh.

France’s Foreign Minister Barrot paid a visit to al-Bireh city, which adjoins Ramallah, where armed supremacist Israeli Jewish colonists on Sunday night torched 20 cars in a matter of minutes, in what has been described online as a "pogrom", with most set ablaze and left smouldering wrecks.

He was received by Interior Minister, MG Zyad Hab al-Reeh, Ramallah Governor, Layla Ghannam, Director-General of the Civil Defense, MG al-Abed Ibrahim Khalil, together with a host of people.

During the visit, Ramallah Governor Ghannam voiced her appreciation to France for its position in rejection of Israeli “terrorist” practices against the defenceless Palestinian people, while pointing to the alarmingly sharp rise in attacks committed by Israeli colonists, under the protection of the occupation forces, who open gunfire towards Palestinians when the latter attempt to fend off such attacks and defend themselves.

She expressed her hopes that the international community would stand by the Palestinians more resolutely than ever before and help bring the occupation to an end.

She stressed the need for the international community to lend unwavering support to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and intervene to end the genocide against Palestinians in all parts of the occupied territories.

Some of the area residents recounted the details of the horrendous attack, as they were taken by surprise when Israeli colonists stormed the area and committed the arson attack.

They added that a number of the inhabitants of the buildings targeted in the attack, including a cardiac patient and a pregnant woman, were rushed to hospitals due to smoke suffocation, not to mention panic-stricken children.

They concluded that several families were eventually forced to leave their houses which became unfit for habitation and required restoration due to the arson attack, while voicing concerns over recurrent colonists’ attacks.
