President Abbas meets with UN Secretary-General in Kazan

KAZAN, October 24, 2024 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met on Thursday with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in the Russian city of Kazan.

The President appreciated Guterres's positions in support of stopping the aggression on Gaza, and his efforts to find a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

President Abbas reviewed the latest Palestinian developments, stressing the need to stop the occupation's comprehensive aggression against our people, and the crimes of genocide, especially those committed by the occupation forces in the northern Gaza Strip, and to accelerate the entry of humanitarian aid, and to withdraw from the entire Gaza Strip.

The President reiterated the State of Palestine's categorical rejection of the displacement of any Palestinian citizen, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian state, adding that it is not acceptable to separate it from the rest of the Palestinian land, or to cut off any part of its land, or to reoccupy it.

President Abbas stressed that the only solution to all the escalation in the region is a political solution based on international law and international legitimacy resolutions in accordance with the two-state solution, which leads to ending the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine and embodying its independence with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The President called for action at all levels to protect the two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and embody it on the ground to achieve security and stability in the region.

The President stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian endeavor to obtain full membership for the State of Palestine in the United Nations and obtain more recognition of the State of Palestine.

President Abbas stressed the need to oblige Israel to abide by international law and international legitimacy resolutions, the latest of which was the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly, by an overwhelming majority, of a draft resolution submitted by the State of Palestine, calling on Israel to end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory within 12 months.

The President stressed the need to mobilize international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to continue providing its vital humanitarian services in accordance with its international mandate, especially for more than two million Palestinians in Gaza, who are living in catastrophic humanitarian conditions.

The President arrived in Kazan yesterday evening to attend the BRICS summit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and to seek the State of Palestine's membership in the BRICS group.
