NEW YORK, October 4, 2024 (WAFA) – Members of the United Nations Security Council have reaffirmed their full support for Secretary-General António Guterres and the vital role he plays within the UN framework.

In a statement released last night, the Council emphasized the importance of fostering productive and effective relationships between all member states and the Secretary-General, urging nations to refrain from actions that undermine his work and the efforts of his office.

The statement condemned any decision to disengage from the Secretary-General or the UN, labeling such moves as counterproductive, particularly amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

This announcement follows Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz's recent declaration labeling Guterres as "persona non grata" in Israel, effectively banning him from entering the country.
