Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs’ Executive Bureau discusses situation in Palestine, Lebanon

CAIRO, October 1, 2024 (WAFA) – The Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Tuesday discussed the social and humanitarian situation in Palestine and Lebanon in light of ongoing Israeli genocidal onslaught.

Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Social Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, said that the Executive Bureau of the Council addressed the social and humanitarian conditions in both countries as a top priority on the agenda of its 80th meeting, held at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

She added that the ministers discussed the best ways to provide aid, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the Council, to alleviate the harsh social and humanitarian conditions in the war-plagued countries.

She noted that as part of preparations for the Council’s upcoming round, the Executive Bureau of the Council also reviewed several social and developmental initiatives put forward by member states as well as preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit and the Global Disability Summit scheduled for 2025, with focus on multi-dimensional poverty eradication, supporting the rights of disabled persons and the elderly, childhood and family issues in addition to strengthening social protection policies in Arab countries.
