British Trade Union conference calls for immediate ceasefire and recognition of Palestine

LONDON, September 12, 2024 (WAFA) - In its annual meeting held in Brighton, UK, the British Trade Union Congress (TUC) has issued a strong call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the recognition of the State of Palestine, and a comprehensive arms embargo.

The conference, attended by Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, also endorsed sanctions against Israeli calls for genocide.

In a resolution passed by an overwhelming majority, the delegates urged for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, continued pursuit of legal actions against Israel in international courts, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to Gaza.

During his speech, Ambassador Zomlot thanked the attendees for their support of Palestinian rights, describing the vote as a historic moment that unequivocally represents a collective desire to halt Israeli practices, including its illegal military occupation and alleged genocide in Gaza.

Zomlot expressed his disappointment with the international community’s inertia, noting that the current situation in Palestine undermines post-World War II efforts to prevent such atrocities.

The TUC, the largest trade union movement in the UK, represents 5.5 million members from various professions.
