JENIN, September, 5, 2024 (WAFA) – The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, called on journalists and international media organizations on Thursday to support their colleagues in Gaza and pressure Israel to allow press crews to enter the Strip.
Lazzarini said in a post on X, "International journalists' coverage of conflicts and wars is a constant, but not in Gaza."
He added, "For about 11 months, international media crews have been prevented from freely entering Gaza and reporting on the humanitarian crisis and the consequences of the war."
Lazzarini expressed his appreciation for Palestinian journalists, stating that they "continue to carry the torch despite the killing of many of them."
"Palestinian journalists "need the support of their colleagues," he added.
He stressed that "the entry of international media into Gaza is essential to impartially report on the enormous humanitarian needs and the intensive efforts made by relief organizations despite all the difficulties."
"International news organizations must exert more pressure to enter Gaza and freely report on the events taking place there," Lazzarini added.
