WASHINGTON DC, August 23, 2024 (WAFA) – U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has accused Secretary of State Antony Blinken of being publicly humiliated during his recent visit to Israel, where he sought a ceasefire in Gaza and engaged in prisoner exchange negotiations.
Omar’s comments were made during a press conference with fellow Representative Cori Bush in Chicago, where the Democratic National Convention 2024 was being held.
Omar questioned how Blinken could travel to Israel multiple times to plead for an end to the war while the U.S. continues to supply weapons that exacerbate the aggression. "How can we not be ashamed of the humiliation faced by our administration’s representatives?" Omar said. She criticized the Biden administration for failing to acknowledge the genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza.
In response to President Joe Biden's claim of working tirelessly for a ceasefire, Omar suggested that the administration should be ashamed for making such statements while continuing to send arms. She urged the Biden administration to halt arms supplies if they genuinely seek to end the war.
Representative Cori Bush added that over 40,000 Palestinians, including men, women, and children, have been killed in Gaza by weapons produced and funded by the United States.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, has been waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, resulting so far in more than 133,000 casualties, including many children and women, and over 10,000 missing persons.
