EU's Borrell demands an investigation into Gaza ICRC shelling

BRUSSELS, Saturday, June 22, 2024 (WAFA) – EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell today called for an independent investigation into a deadly shelling that hit the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Gaza.

“The EU condemns the shelling, which damaged the ICRC office in Gaza and led to dozens of casualties," Borrell said on X.

“An independent investigation is needed and those responsible must be held accountable,” he added.

“ICRC must be able to carry out all its Geneva Conventions duties in safety, including humanitarian protection, assistance to the victims, access to prisoners,” he stressed.

On Friday, the Israeli military aircrafts conducted two strikes targeting the vicinity of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office at the al-Mawasi camp, northwest of Rafah, which had been designated a "humanitarian zone" by the occupation forces, killing at least 25 people and injuring 50 others.
