RAMALLAH, Thursday, June 20, 2024 (WAFA) – The Foreign Ministry today affirmed that the Palestinian refugees’ right of return and compensation is alienable and guaranteed under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The Ministry stated in a press statement on the occasion of World Refugee Day that the Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homeland and receive compensation for the material and moral damages they have endured is alienable and guaranteed under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UNGA Resolutions 194 and 237.
It pledged to continue working with all stakeholders to realize the Palestinian people’s rights, including the Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homeland, as well as to secure the return of 1.9 Palestinian refugees forcibly displaced from their houses in the Gaza Strip in the course of the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Strip, and to confront the large-scale and systematic efforts of Israel, the occupying power, to ethnically cleanse and annex the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
It also pledged to continue working with all partners to safeguard the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and ensure it remains capable of implementing its mandate, including providing vital services to Palestinian refugees.
It reiterated that the international community has a legal, political and ethical responsibility to ensure that Israel, the occupying power, ends not only its aggression on the Palestinians, but also the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip, and halt its colonial violence against the Palestinian people.
