NOUAKCHOTT, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 (WAFA) - President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh AI- Ghazouani, which was delivered by the President's special envoy and spokesperson for the presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh.
During a meeting with the Mauritanian President at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, Abu Rudeineh conveyed President Abbas's greetings, gratitude and appreciation to the Mauritanian president for his country’s steadfast positions in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause in all international forums.
In his letter, President Abbas reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, and the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
He affirmed the clear Palestinian position on the necessity of an immediate cessation of Israel’s aggression, complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, rapid delivery of aid to the entire Gaza Strip, prevention of displacement and cessation of Israeli attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as the immediate implementation of international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative to end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Abbas also emphasized Palestine's commitment to strengthening and solidifying the brotherly relations between Palestine and Mauritania.
He stressed the importance of activating the ministerial committees between the two countries to benefit both brotherly peoples.
During the meeting, Abu Rudeineh stressed the significant impact of a unified Arab stance on international positions and their support for the legitimate Palestinian right to establish an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He praised the successive European recognitions of the State of Palestine and emphasized the importance of supporting the Palestinian effort to obtain full membership in the United Nations.
Abu Rudeineh also reviewed the current situation in Palestine and the unjust genocide waged against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation, as well as Israel's ongoing attempts to destroy the Palestinian cause.
He said that the Palestinian people are facing an all-out war in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in an attempt to undermine their national project.
He called on the international community to put an end to this aggression, to swiftly provide aid, and to expedite the reconstruction of Gaza, where more than 70% of its buildings and infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and residential areas, have been destroyed.
For his part, the Mauritanian president reaffirmed Mauritania's steadfast stance in support of Palestine and its just cause until the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
