President Abbas discusses latest developments in Palestinian arena with Spanish Prime Minister

AMMAN, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 (WAFA) – The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, discussed today the latest developments in the Palestinian arena with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, on the sidelines of his participation in the International Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference for Gaza," hosted by Jordan.

President Abbas thanked the Spanish Prime Minister for his country's courageous and principled stance toward recognizing the State of Palestine, which complements Spain's positions in support of international law and legitimacy, and its support for the Palestinian people's right to freedom and independence.

The President affirmed that the decision to recognize the State of Palestine would contribute to protecting the two-state solution, which is facing systematic destruction, and achieving security, peace and stability for everyone.

The president reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian arena, the ongoing efforts with all parties to stop the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and ensure the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, underscoring the urgent need to bring in aid to avoid the risk of imminent famine facing the population of Gaza due to the occupation's control and closure of all border crossings.

President Abbas stressed the necessity to release immediately the Palestinian clearance funds withheld by Israel, and to halt all measures strangling the Palestinian economy.

For his part, the Spanish Prime Minister reiterated his country's support for the Palestinian people and their unwavering and legitimate right to their land, along with their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

Spain announced its official recognition of the State of Palestine on May 28.
