Arab League calls for immediate, permanent cessation of Israeli genocidal aggression on Gaza

CAIRO, Wednesday, June 05, 2024 (WAFA) – The Arab League today called for the immediate and permanent cessation of the Israeli genocidal aggression on the blockaded Gaza Strip.

In a press statement on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the Naksa, the General Secretariat of the Arab League also called for ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid to meet the need of the population of the Strip, immediately commencing the reconstruction of the Strip without any further delay as well as for opening up the prospect for the realization of just, permanent and comprehensive peace based on the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from all the Palestinian and Arab territories that have been occupied since June 1967 and conducive to the establishment of the independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The General Secretariat of the Arab League pointed out that this year's commemoration comes amid a eight-month destructive war waged by Israel on the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, where 2.3 million people are subjected to all forms of crimes tantamount to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, including the use of starvation as a method of warfare, in full view of the world.

It called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibility and enforce its relevant resolutions.

It welcomed the positive and constructive stances of all peace-loving countries and peoples, especially those that have recognized the State of Palestine as a prerequisite to implementing the two-state solution, and urged countries that have not yet taken this decision to follow suit, as it serves is a leverage to security, peace, and stability in the region.

It noted Israel’s persistence in its policy of colonial construction, killings, detentions, house demolitions, and desecration of holy sites in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as targeting of South Lebanon and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

It condemned Israel’s systematic policy of imposing fait accompli and refusal to comply with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, while stressing its solidarity with and support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and independence and for the establishment of their own independent State on their national soil, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
