Slovenia becomes latest European country to recognize Palestinian state after parliamentary vote

 

LJUBLJANA, Tuesday, June 4, 2024 (WAFA) - Slovenia today recognized Palestine as an independent and sovereign state after its parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of the move.

Slovenia’s decision came days after Spain, Norway and Ireland recognized the state of Palestine, a move which was condemned by Israel.

Slovenia recognized a Palestinian state today after its parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of the move, joining three other European countries in the move.

Slovenian Prime Minister, Robert Golub, last Thursday, announced that his country decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state on the 1967 borders in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions,

Now, 148 countries recognize a Palestinian state, which makes up more than two-thirds of the United Nations.
