RAMALLAH, Sunday, June 2, 2024 (WAFA) – The official Palestinian media condemned in a statement today the Israeli detention of WAFA journalist, Rasha Hirzallah, after being summoned to appear before interrogations today at the illegal colony of ‘Ariel’, in the city of Salfit in the central occupied West Bank by the Israeli occupation’s intelligence.

The official media confirmed in a press release that the detention and retaliation faced by Palestinian journalists will not deter official media personnel from carrying out their duty toward the Palestinian people and their just cause, as well as toward exposing the practices and crimes of the occupation.

The statement stressed that the detention of female WAFA journalist, Rasha Hirzallah, is part of the occupation's targeting of the Palestinian media in general, and in particular against the official press.

The official media slammed the detention of WAFA journalist, Hirzallah, as part of the occupation’s attempts to obscure the truth and terrorize journalists, especially in light of its all-out aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

Given the difficult conditions inflicted upon the Palestinian people due to the ongoing occupation’s aggression, the official media called on the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to protect journalists, so they could report the truth and expose the crimes and practices of the occupation.

Eleven Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed and 47 others have been detained since the onset of the occupation's aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023.
