BRUSSELS, Monday, May 27, 2024 (WAFA) - President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said it was horrendous to see innocent Palestinian civilians killed in the recent Israeli occupation’s attack on displaced persons’ camp in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
“There is no safe zone for the internally displaced in Rafah,” said the President of the European Council on his X account.
He called on the Israeli government to fully respect the International Court of Justice and to immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah.
“An immediate ceasefire must be implemented. I urge international law and international humanitarian law to be respected.”
“I remind the government of Israel that the EU-IL Association Agreement is and must continue to be based on respect for human rights and international law in line with our values,’ he said.
High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has also expressed horror at news coming out of Rafah on Israeli strikes killing dozens of displaced persons, including small children. “I condemn this in the strongest terms,” he said on his X account.
“There is no safe place in Gaza. These attacks must stop immediately.”
He stressed that all parties must respect the ICJ orders and International humanitarian law.
