RAMALLAH, Monday, May 27, 2024(WAFA) - The Palestinian Presidency welcomed the courageous and bold European political positions, especially those of Spain, Ireland and Norway, which recently recognized the State of Palestine.
The Presidency also welcomed the recent statements of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell, in which he stressed the necessity of implementing the ruling of the International Court of Justice calling for an end to the Israeli military attacks on Rafah.
In a statement issued today, the Presidency praised the strong statements made by Borrell, in which he stated that the two-state solution is not a painful concession made by Israel, noting that this call is consistent with the official Palestinian position which has repeatedly stressed that military and security solutions have proved a total failure.
The presidency stressed that the only solution was to recognize the rights of the Palestinian people to obtain freedom and independence and establish an independent state on their national territory, in accordance with international legitimacy.
The Presidency emphasized that these courageous European positions expressed by European leaders confirm the existence of an international consensus on the necessity of stopping this ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people from Rafah to Jenin and ending the heinous massacres to which the Palestinian people are exposed.
The presidency added that these courageous European positions underscore the necessity of having a political path based on international legitimacy resolutions to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It reiterated the readiness of the Palestinian side to work immediately to reopen the Rafah border crossing in accordance with the 2005 Agreement on Movement and Access (AMA), in response to the call of the European foreign policy official in which he said that the European Union foreign ministers had given the green light to reactivate a European Union border mission in the city of Rafah, south of Gaza Strip.
