LOS ANGELES, Friday, May 24, 2024 (WAFA) — Students at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have set up a new Palestine solidarity encampment, a week after their first camp was attacked by pro-Israel bombs and raided by the police.
Gathering in one of the university buildings, students established a new encampment while chanting slogans condemning the use of tear gas and rubber bullets against them in previous protests.
Some faculty members at the university and members of student unions expressed their support for the students, holding a banner that read: "We, the faculty and staff at California University, stand with our students."
On April 18th, students and academics opposed to the aggression on Gaza began a sit-in at Columbia University's campus in New York City, demanding the administration cease academic cooperation with Israeli universities and divest from companies supporting the occupation.
As police intervened and arrested dozens of protesters, anger spread, leading to protests and calls for an end to the war on Gaza and the boycott of companies supplying Israel with weapons in universities across countries such as France, Britain, Germany, Canada, and India.
