AMMAN, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 (WAFA) – Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, welcomed the decisions of Norway, Ireland and Spain to recognize the State of Palestine, stating: “We value such decisions that are on the path to peace,” according to Jordan’s Petra news agency.
The Jordanian foreign minister noted that other countries will also recognize the Palestinian state.
He also denounced the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir as a provocative act.
Earlier today, Extremist Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir, escorted by heavily armed Israeli police, stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem for the first time since the onset of the ongoing bloody Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
In a statement he delivered during his incursion into the holy Muslim site, the extremist minister called for taking control of the mosque.
During a joint press conference in Amman with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, Safadi slammed Ben-Gvir’s storming of the holy mosque as a blatant violation of international law and of the legal and historical status quo of holy sites.
He denounced the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Ben-Gvir as a provocative act that would only further exacerbate an already difficult situation.
Safadi warned that the situation in the West Bank is on the brink of collapse, stressing that an explosion in the situation would lead to more dangerous consequences.
He stressed that the Israeli occupation’s illegal repressive and intensified measures in the West Bank kill any chance of achieving peace.
Safadi also called on the nations of the world to act immediately to stop the Israeli occupation’s aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Safadi highlighted the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, adding that United Nations organizations have announced their discontinuation of aid delivery in the Strip due to the lack of suitable conditions.
He stressed that the occupation has not fulfilled its obligation to grant UN organizations the freedom they need to distribute aid, resulting in greater humanitarian suffering, extreme Hunger, and higher death rates.
The conference also touched on the recent decisions made by Israeli ministers allowing the return of colonists to colonies that Israel itself dismantled and evicted years ago.
He said that the construction of new colonial outposts in the occupied West Bank would only further divide the West Bank. It should be noted that the occupied West Bank is already fragmented by existing illegal colonies.
Safadi also reviewed the announcement made by extremist Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, that he would not give back the withheld Palestinian Authority’s clearance funds.
Safadi urged for immediate action by the international community, calling to stop wasting time and allowing illegal and unlawful actions that push the region toward further deterioration.
He reiterated the urgent need for immediate international action based on clear priorities, pointing out that the priority is to stop the aggression on Gaza, lift all restrictions imposed by Israel on the entry and distribution of aid to Gaza adequately, and allow UN organizations to operate freely in adherence with international law and international humanitarian law.
He called for the cessation of all illegal and unlawful measures that undermine the two-state solution, emphasizing the need to work towards achieving a comprehensive and just peace which can only be realized when the occupation ends and the Palestinians attain their right to a sovereign state and freedom on their national soil based on the two-state solution.
