RIYADH, Monday, April 29, 2024 (WAFA) - Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud stressed during a dialogue session at the World Economic Forum held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, the need to develop comprehensive solutions to the Palestinian situation.
The Saudi Foreign Minister said the United Nations estimates that it would likely take 30 years to rebuild the extensive damage caused by Israel’s relentless aggression on Gaza, stressing that the suffering of the Palestinian people in the West Bank cannot be ignored.
The new Special Representative to UNDP’s Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People, Roberto Valent, said in an interview in Gaza City that Gaza reconstruction was moving at a “snail’s pace” and, at this rate, it would likely take 30 years to rebuild the extensive damage.
He underscored the need for an irreversible and credible path for the establishment of a Palestinian State.
In the meantime, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi said during the Forum that the Israeli government is driven by an ideology that does not believe in the two-state solution. He said: “Israel says publicly that it does not want a two-state solution and rejects international resolutions,” stressing that Israel’s colonial activities kill the two-state solution.
The Jordanian minister said that the world must confront Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and prevent him from dragging the region into war.
The Jordanian Foreign Minister also believed that any approach in Gaza must be part of a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said addressing the Forum that what must be done is to establish a two-state solution and prevent the cycle of violence from expanding, adding that Egypt has placed on the table a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, which he hoped would be accepted.
