WASHINGTON, Thursday, April 25, 2024 (WAFA) - A ceremony was held in Washington today in honor of the seven slain relief workers from the U.S.-based non-governmental organization, the World Central Kitchen (WCK) who were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their vehicle in the Gaza Strip on the first of April.
Chef José Andrés, the founder of World Central Kitchen addressed those who gathered at the National Cathedral in Washington to honor the seven slain workers, stating: "They risked everything to feed people they did not know – and would never meet.”
The World Central Kitchen said following the killing of the seven humanitarian workers that it is pausing its operations immediately in the region.
The seven killed are from Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, and Palestine.
The killing of the seven workers sparked wide international condemnation.
