Libyan Ministry condemns Security Council 's failure to grant Palestine's UN membership

RAMALLAH, Friday, April 20, 2024 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of state of Libya expressed its deep regret and dissatisfaction with the failure of the UN Security Council to approve a draft resolution accepting the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

In a statement today, the Libyan Ministry called on the countries that rejected and abstained from voting in favor of the resolution to side with human values ​​and the principles of international law and to abide by the provisions of the United Nations Charter, which grants full membership to countries that accept the obligations contained therein.

The Ministry expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Republic of Algeria, which submitted the draft resolution, within the framework of continuing Arab and Islamic diplomatic efforts, supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their struggle to achieve their freedom and establish their independent state.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed the firm commitment of the State of Libya to support the Palestinian issue and find a comprehensive and just political solution to it, in a way that achieves peace and stability for the region and stops the racist practices of the Israeli occupation against innocent Palestinians.
