President Abbas discusses ongoing Israeli aggression with visiting Bahraini Foreign Minister

RAMALLAH, Friday, April 19, 2024 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, today at the Presidential Compound in Ramallah. Al Zayani was representing King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the visiting minister on the latest developments regarding the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He also briefed the guest on the efforts to halt the aggression, expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid, and prevent displacement.

President Abbas warned of the grave consequences of an Israeli invasion of Rafah, stressing that it would result in a humanitarian catastrophe and a bloodbath. He called on the international community to immediately intervene to stop the aggression and to halt the terrorist crimes committed by Israeli settler militias against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

The President reiterated ongoing efforts to achieve full Palestinian membership in the United Nations and the importance of recognition by countries that have not yet done so. He praised the positions of countries in the UN Security Council “that stood in favor of the values of justice and righteousness by voting in favor of Palestine obtaining full membership, despite the unfair and condemned U.S. veto.”

President Abbas also commended Bahrain's supportive stance towards the people of Palestine and their cause, as well as the positions of Arab countries and their supportive populations for the full rights of the Palestinian people to freedom, independence, and an end to occupation.

In response, Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani emphasized that the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people would be a number-one issue at the upcoming Arab summit in Bahrain next month.
