China and Indonesia stress the necessity of implementing UN Security Council’s resolution for ceasefire in Gaza

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, April 18, 2024 (WAFA) – The Foreign Ministers of China, Wang Yi, and Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, stressed the necessity of implementing the United Nations Security Council resolution regarding a complete ceasefire and without any conditions in the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting in Jakarta, the two ministers expressed their dissatisfaction with the humanitarian catastrophe resulting from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Wang urged the United States to listen to the international community amid concerns about the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, stressing, "The United States should support a United Nations resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."

He added, "The Security Council is a collective security mechanism that should not be exploited by any specific country."

For her part, Indonesian Minister Marsudi expressed her hope that China would use its influence to prevent any further escalation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the necessity of implementing the two-state solution.

On March 25, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution No. 2728, which calls for an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, respected by all parties, leading to a “permanent and sustainable ceasefire,” with the support of 14 members and the United States of America abstaining from voting.

The ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip has resulted in 33,899 documented Palestinian fatalities, in addition to 76,664 injuries since October 7, 2023.

Moreover, at least 7,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
