BRUSSELS, Monday, February 12, 2024 (WAFA) – Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, today warned of repercussions of an Israeli military offensive in the densely overcrowded city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Borrell stressed the need to continue pressuring on Israel to prevent it from attacking civilians.
Borrell, in a press conference in the Belgian capital, Brussels, said that the number of people killed due to the ongoing Israeli shelling in Gaza strip is unbearable.
"People in Gaza are being bombed and cannot escape, and the losses among civilians inside the Strip are unbearable."
He affirmed that launching a ground offensive in the city of Rafah would prevent the arrival of humanitarian aid, strongly denouncing the statements made by Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who threatened to attack Rafah without disclosing “safe evacuation” plans.
In a preliminary toll, the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has resulted in the murder of over 28,176 individuals, the majority of whom are innocent civilians, and over 68,000 injuries.
