RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 9, 2023 (WAFA) – On the day before yesterday, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh gave an interview to Bloomberg, which was published yesterday, but the text included inaccurate and incorrect points.
In response to a question about the goal of the American delegation’s visit, he said that the discussion centered on the two-state solution and the practical steps to achieve it. He did not say that the Palestinian National Authority and the US administration were discussing “a plan to manage Gaza.”
Regarding the day after the war, the Prime Minister said: “What concerns us today is stopping the killing and aggression against our people and an immediate ceasefire to stop the bloodshed of our people.”
Regarding the role of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, he said: “We have not left it, and the Palestinian Authority has continued to provide services to our people in the Gaza Strip, and that Israel must not be allowed to reoccupy Gaza or annex part of it under the so-called buffer zones.”
He said: “Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian territories, and when there is talk of a two-state solution, this means Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, and we will not return to Gaza on the back of an Israeli tank.”
He said, "The Palestinian Authority cannot do the reconstruction of Gaza alone. It needs an international collective effort." He did not mention anything about asking Qatar to transfer money from Hamas to the Palestinian Authority.
The Prime Minister said, "Hamas cannot be eliminated because it exists everywhere and is part of the Palestinian political fabric." The reconciliation talks in Algeria and Egypt touched on Hamas joining the Palestine Liberation Organization if it accepts the organization’s program, and did not say that it would be a “small or large partner.”
The journalist added these points and words and they did not come from the Prime Minister.
