Japan provides $10m emergency aid in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip

TOKYO, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 (WAFA) - The Government of Japan today decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of $10 million in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The aid, part of Japan’s humanitarian assistance in areas such as food, water and medical care, will be provided through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) - $7 million for food water and others, and $3 million through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for medical care, health, protection and others.

“The Government of Japan will continue to closely monitor the ongoing situation with strong interest, and will proactively engage with the concerned parties, in cooperation with other countries and international organizations, and work toward achieving early de-escalation of the situation and improvement of the humanitarian situation in Gaza. In addition, Japan will continue to consider assistance in a timely manner based on the needs on the ground,” according to a press statement.
