Newspaper Review: Tension in the occupied territories, mainly Jerusalem, and Trump trial focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, April 5, 2023 (WAFA) – The tension in the occupied territories with settlers’ and army attacks in the West Bank, and in East Jerusalem with threats by Jewish fanatics to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well the Donald Trump trial were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

“Injuries while confronting incursions; the occupation seizes 20 dunums in Nilin; settlers establish a new settlement outpost north of Jericho,” said the headline for the main front-page story in al-Ayyam daily.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily headline said: “Al-Aqsa: the worshippers in the field.”

The third daily, al-Quds, which also reported on the tension in the occupied territories and said that two soldiers were injured in a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, opted to highlight as its main front-page story the trial of former US President Donald Trump and said he is facing dozens of charges.

It also said that the Israeli occupation authorities have doubled the budget for the so-called Settlements Council to monitor Palestinian construction in Area C of the occupied West Bank, which is under full Israeli military control.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said this budget is intended to fight Palestinian presence in Area C.

The daily also said that the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted two resolutions in favor of Palestine on right to self-determination and the illegality of the settlements.

It also that Palestinian and Brazilian activists succeeded in canceling an event for Israeli universities in Brazil.

It quoted the head of the Palestinian Football Association, Jibril Rjoub, saying that not holding Israel responsible for its attack on Palestinian sports hampers ability to take part in competitions.

Al-Ayyam daily said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem rejected objections to establishing the so-called Silicon Valley in Wadi al-Joz neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem after demolishing the Palestinian businesses in the area.
