Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight Israel’s killing of two Palestinians

RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 2, 2023 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the fatal shooting yesterday by Israeli occupation forces of two Palestinians during two separate incidents in occupied Jerusalem and in the town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron.

These are the main headlines:

Al-Quds:

- A [Palestinian] young man from the Naqab region was shot dead [by Israeli gunfire] in Jerusalem; [Palestinians] in the 1948-occupied lands observe a general strike in protest.

- A Palestinian from Surif was shot dead [by Israeli soldiers], and three Israeli soldiers were injured after being run over near the town of Beit Ummar.

- Warnings that Itamar Ben-Gvir could break into the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Passover.

- Last month: 14 homes demolished by the Israeli occupation, and 28 attacks by Israeli settlers against Bedouin communities.

- 88 violations against the Palestinian digital content last month.

- 170,000 Israelis demonstrate [against Netanyahu] in Tel Aviv.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida:

- Mohammad Baradiya, from Surif, and Mohammad al-Osaibi, from Naqab, were shot dead [by Israeli occupation forces]… Injuries [among Palestinians] in confrontations in the town of Beit Ummar and the village of Nabi Saleh.

- Settlers attack vehicles south of Nablus.

- [Palestinians] in the 1948-occupied lands observe a general strike in protest of [Israeli police’s murder] of Mohammad al-Osaibi.

- Palestinian Presidency: We warn the occupation of its escalation in Al-Aqsa.

- Calls for the widest participation in the campaign to release the prisoner Walid Daqqa and the sick prisoners.

- Renewed protests in Israel in protest of the weakening of the judiciary and the establishment of a "national guard".

Al-Ayyam:

- [Mohammad Baradiya], a first lieutenant in the Palestinian National Security, was shot dead [by Israeli occupation soldiers] in Beit Ummar after he allegedly rammed [his vehicle] into Israeli soldiers, injuring three of them.

- [On the fatal shooting of Mohammad al-Osaibi]: Israeli police claims there are no surveillance cameras in the area where he was shot dead near the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

- Protests renew in Israel against [Netanyahu’s] plan to weaken the judiciary.

- Israeli settlers carry out more attacks; injuries by Israeli gunfire in Nabi Saleh and Beit Ummar.
