ASATANA, Thursday, October 13, 2022 (WAFA) – President Abbas today underscored the importance of mobilizing international support for implementing United Nations resolutions.

Speaking during the 6th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Astana, President Abbas called on heads of the Members States for mobilizing international support for implementing the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative (API) with the ultimate purpose of ending the Israeli occupation and help the Palestinian people realize their aspirations to freedom and independence.

Commenting on CICA Member States decision to begin with the implementation of confidence building measures in the new challenges and threats, President Abbas stated the State of Palestine stressed the need to address the threats posed by the Israeli occupation, which the Palestinian people strive to get rid of utilizing diplomatic means in line with the international law, the signed agreements, terms of reference and API.

He reiterated that Israel has violated all signed agreements as it has been proceeding with the construction of colonial settlements, extrajudicial killings of Palestinians, demolitions, assaults against prisoners, and blockading Palestinian cities and towns, including the lockdown imposed on the Jerusalem camp of Shufat and Nablus city.

Given Israel’s violation of all signed agreements, President Abbas said that Palestinian leadership would not continue to unilaterally abide by the agreements, reconsider ties with Israel and demand that it apologizes to the Palestinian people and compensate them for the massacres it has inflicted against them since 1948.

He went on to urge European states that have not recognized the State of Palestine to do so and support Palestine’s bid for full membership of the UN as a means to safeguard the two-state solution.

He renewed his call for convening an international peace conference on Palestine and provision the necessary international protection for Palestinian civilians under Israeli occupation.

Recalling that Israel’s admission to membership in the United Nations in 1949 was based on two conditions: Israel’s commitment, first, to the partition resolution and the establishment of a Palestinian State, and, second, to resolution 194 (III) on the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and their compensation, President Abbas called for the implementation of the UN resolutions 181 of 1947 and 194 of 1948 and urged both the US and UK to apologize for their role in the Balfour Declaration and compensate the Palestinian people.
