Israel orders halt on construction of six homes in Salfit

SALFIT, Saturday, May 21, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities ordered today a halt on the construction of six Palestinian homes in the village of Kafr Al-Dik, in the occupied West Bank province of Salfit, according to local sources.

Salfit Governorate said in a press statement that an Israeli army force ordered a stop on the construction of six homes and a café in the village, under the pretext of lacking an Israeli construction permit.

Israel rarely issues planning permits for Palestinians to build on their own land or to extend existing houses to accommodate natural growth, particularly in Area C, which constitutes 60 percent of the occupied West Bank and falls under full Israeli military rule, forcing residents to build without obtaining rarely-granted permits to provide shelters for their families.

The building permits are charged at extortionate prices and are unaffordable for most Palestinians, creating a legal loophole for Israel to annex more land and leave Palestinians in limbo by preventing them from developing infrastructure.
