RAMALLAH, Friday, September 17, 2021 (WAFA) – Jamal Nazzal, spokesman for European Affairs in the ruling Fatah Movement, has strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Neftali Bennet's depiction of the creation of a Palestinian state as a terrible mistake.
In a statement today, Nazzal said: “It would be much bigger a mistake for the world to let Mr. Bennet’s unacceptable statements go unnoticed as an expression of hostility towards peace and our rights to independence and self-determination.”
Last week, the Israeli prime minster told KAN news: "I oppose a Palestinian state. I think it would be a terrible mistake that would take the terrible situation in Gaza and recreate it in Judea and Samaria".
“Instead of being given a chance to deepen the conflict through settlements and more violation of Palestinian human rights, the Israeli government must be put to the test of addressing the core issues that do matter to us a great deal,” added Nazzal.
He continued, “We have proven to the whole world that under [President Mahmoud Abbas’s] leadership, we were able to build strong institutions and the infrastructure of a state no trace of which had existed prior to the creation of the Palestinian Authority back in 1994.”
The spokesman concluded: “What's needed to reach peace and achieve security in the region is for Israel to stop encouraging extremists by settlement building, confiscation of land and undermining our government’s ability to serve its people. It’s time for Israel to depart from the one-sided ideology of supremacy and the ambitions to control other people's life.”
