RAMALLAH, Monday, December 7, 2020 (WAFA) – The illegal Israeli settlement activities and plans in the north of occupied East Jerusalem, as well as settler vandalism of Palestinian property in the occupied West Bank were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam said the Israeli occupation authorities approved the construction of 9000 housing units in a new settlement that will be built on land that was part of the pre-June, 1967, Jerusalem airport at Qalandia in the north of the city.
Al-Quds said a bridge will be built over Qalandia while four bypass roads will be also built to link settlements with Israel worth over $100 million.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the occupation authorities approved the construction of four settlement projects in the West Bank.
The announcements were made on the third anniversary of the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said al-Quds.
The main front-page story in al-Quds, however, highlighted Israeli settler vandalism of Palestinian properties in the occupied West Bank, particularly the hacking of decades-old olive trees in Kufr al-Dik and Yasouf villages in the north of the West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestinians were injured from Israeli gunfire in several Palestinian towns as settlers set up caravans on Palestinian land in the Jordan Valley in order to take it over.
Al-Ayyam said the settlers are continuing their war against olive trees as soldiers restrict the movement of farmers in the Jordan Valley.
Al-Quds also highlighted the meeting Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh had with journalists yesterday in which he said that the Palestinian Authority welcomes the new US administration as long as it will act on the legitimate Palestinian rights.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the coronavirus toll in Palestine and said 17 people have died of the disease, and 2333 were infected in 24 hours.
Al-Ayyam said the Palestinian government will discuss today whether or not to return to full lockdown in order to stop the spread of the virus.
The paper also said European Union diplomats are planning to visit the Gaza Strip tomorrow, their first in one year.
