Right Wing Israelis Harass Arab Lawmaker at High Court

JERUSALEM, October 9, 2013 (WAFA) – Right wing Israeli fanatics Wednesday harassed Haneen Zoubi, Arab member of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, during a hearing at the High Court in Jerusalem, according to a release by Zoubi’s National Democratic Bloc party.

It said Zoubi and other members of her party were at the court, which was discussing a petition by the right wing Israelis to prosecute Zoubi for participating in the Turkish Mavi Marmara flotilla to Gaza in May 2010.

Israeli navy attacked the flotilla outside the Gaza shores and killed nine Turkish nationals before steering the ship to a port in Israel. The incident caused a break in Israeli-Turkish relations.

The three-judge panel of the High Court decided to postpone a ruling on the petition until a later date because the lawyer representing the right wing Israelis asked the court to hear ”secret” evidence of the flotilla incident.

The government’s attorney called on the court to throw out the petition because there was no evidence that Zoubi used violence, directly or indirectly, during the navy raid on the ship.

Zoubi told reporters at the court that she wants all tapes taken of the incident to be made public because, she said, “they will convict the murderers who killed the activists on the ship.”

According to the press statement, the right wing Israelis tried to attack Zoubi and called her “a terrorist” and that she should be killed.

Court guards intervened to keep the Israelis away from Zoubi and her party members.
