RAMALLAH, August 9, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian dailies Thursday highlighted the Egyptian government “war” against extremists in Sinai following an attack at Egyptian border checkpoint that left 16 soldiers dead.
Al-Quds front page story reported that Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi sacked intelligence chief, the governor of the country's North Sinai province and the commander of the presidential guard.
The three papers printed photos of the Egyptian army during its military operations in Sinai.
Al-Ayyam featured Fatah Central Committee member Nabil Shaath saying that Egypt will not put itself in trouble and turn Gaza into a sovereign entity as Hamas wishes.
It reported on Palestinian activists organizing a candlelight march to mourn the Egyptian soldiers killed in the attack.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the Palestinian leadership and Fatah rejecting statements by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman regarding President Mahmoud Abbas considering it “call for murder.”
