CAIRO, August 6, 2012 (WAFA) – A senior Egyptian security official announced Sunday evening that Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip has been closed indefinitely following an attack on an Egyptian border security checkpoint leaving 15 soldiers dead, reported the Cairo-based Middle East News Agency.

It said the crossing will be closed for travelers and arrivals.

Masked gunmen attacked Egyptian soldiers stationed near the Rafah borders just after sunset, killing 15 and wounding several others.

Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi warned that this attack will not go unpunished and that the Egyptian army will restore full control over Sinai.

Palestinian officials and faction leaders condemned the attack and called to bring the assailants to justice.
