RAMALLAH, January 2, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Monday focused on the Quartet meeting with Israeli and Palestinian representatives in Jordan on Tuesday.
Al-Quds newspaper highlighted on its front page the meeting of representatives of the Quartet, which is composed of the United States, European Union, Russia and United Nations, with Palestinian and Israeli negotiators in the Jordanian capital Amman.
The daily quoted Palestinian sources stressing that the meeting does not mean the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured Fatah Central Committee meeting, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, held on Sunday in Ramallah, where he informed the committee members of the latest developments of the talks with Hamas and efforts to implement the reconciliation agreement. The daily printed a picture of the meeting.
Al-Ayyam printed a picture of two Israeli soldiers arresting a Palestinian child in the old city of Hebron, south of the West Bank, while al-Quds printed a picture of Israeli soldiers standing next to a group of children setting on the sidewalk in the Old City.
Al-Quds editorial discussed the Palestinian decision to ask the Security Council and the Arab League to discuss Israeli settlements expansion, stressing that all results will provide moral support to the Palestinian cause but will have no practical impact on the Israeli settlement activities.
