GAZA, August 24, 2025 (WAFA) – Hundreds of people took to the streets of Thessaloniki, northeastern Greece, on Sunday in solidarity with Gaza and to condemn what they described as Israel's ongoing genocide against Palestinians since October 2023.
The demonstration, which included members of labor unions, youth cadres from left-wing parties, university students, and academics, began at White Tower Square, one of Thessaloniki's most prominent landmarks.
Participants held up banners reading "Murderer Israel," "Stop the Genocide," and "Freedom for Palestine." Some also placed models of shrouded children in front of the US Consulate in Thessaloniki to protest the killing of Palestinian children by Israel in Gaza.
Protesters called on the international community, particularly the European Union, to take immediate action and not stand idly by in the face of "Israeli massacres that have amounted to genocide."
The demonstration also included the distribution of leaflets that read: "The Palestinian people are not alone... All workers and peoples must unite in a single front for peace and freedom."
Similar demonstrations are expected to take place in several areas of the city throughout the day in Athens.
