JERICHO, May 23, 2011 (WAFA) –PLO’s Executive Committee Member, Saeb Erekat, said Monday that Israel’s recognition of the 1967 borders for the two states is the only way to achieve peace in the region.
This came during Erekat’s meetings, separately, with the Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Filippo Grandi, US Consul General, Daniel Rubinstein, British Consul, Vincent Fein, French Consul General, Frederic Desagneos, Representative of Norway to the Palestinian Authority, Tor Wennesland, and Representative of Canada, Chris Green.
Erekat stressed that the Palestinian reconciliation agreement which has been signed recently in Cairo is the solid foundation of any solution based on the principle of the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, as well as the only way to get to the elections.
All those seeking peace and democracy should support the Palestinian reconciliation, he said.
He added that recognizing a Palestinian state, within the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, as a member in the United Nations is the only guarantee to maintain the principle of the two-state solution.
