South Africa Universities Decide to Boycott Israeli Academics

HEBRON, March 24, 2011 (WAFA) - Amjad Barham, chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions in the Universities of Palestine Thursday praised South Africa’s Universities’ decision to boycott Israeli Academics.

The council pointed out in a statement that this decision is a result of courageous efforts made by loyal supporters of the Palestinian cause in South Africa.

It considered this step as a turn to the right direction to end any relations with Israeli institutions involved in the occupation’s policy and racist segregation.

The Union called on all Academics in the world to make the same move and boycott Israel.

The statement stressed that the boycotting Israeli Academics by Johannesburg University is a victory to the Union council and its colleges in South Africa and other countries.

The council said that the Union will continue its work in this direction to destroy the normalization in Palestinian Academic institutions.
