RAMALLAH, October 2, 2010 (WAFA)- The Palestinian Leadership considered that Israel’s failure to line up to its Road Map commitments to freeze settlement activities , undermines confidence in the capacity of the U.S. lead political process to deliver on its key objective of ending the Israeli occupation in 19647.
In a meeting on Saturday headed by President Mahmoud abbas at the Presidency HQ in the West Bank City of Ramallah, the Leader ship considered that the Israeli government insistence, so soon after direct talks had started, not to extend even the highly limited version of its Road Map obligations, in the form of the 10-month moratorium on settlement activities, which was expired on September 26, renders all of its assertions of desire to give the political process a chance devoid of any meaningful content.
The Leadership also considered, that the government of Israel holds full responsible for the current impasse in the political process.
The Leadership expressed its deep appreciation for the U.S. efforts, acting on and on behalf of its Middle East Quartet partners, to secure resumption the direct talks between the PLO and the Government of Israel, as well to ensure that the international consensus against the Israeli settlement activities is respected.
The Leadership reaffirmed its commitment to fully engage with the international obligations with a view to ensure the integrity of the political process.
