RAMALLAH, January 2, 2010 (WAFA)- President Mahmoud Abbas said, yesterday, that “we must carry hope and optimism in our hearts, our people loves on that hope, and when we cannot offer hope, we must choose an alternative way.”
He added in a televised interview with Palestine Television that, “we have to except the new year to bring hope in the political process, in which we have exerted tremendous efforts. We want to reach stability to establish an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital. At the same time, on the internal level, we want to reach a state of unity of land and people, which has been torn apart in the last two years.
He stated that: “Since three years, the Palestinian Security Forces have been guarding security in a wonderful way. I say, in the West Bank, people are naturally living in safety and security. Everybody is making sense of the difference between the past and the present.”
The president concluded the interview by saying: “Our wishes for the new year are, for Gaza to be freed, for the Palestinian people to unite,” he added, “eventually, we shall reach our independent state with east Jerusalem its capital, and I insist: Jerusalem its capital.”
