President Abbas Receives Greek FM


RAMALLA, June 11, 2007 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received Monday in Ramallah the Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis.

During the meeting, president Abbas briefed the Greek FM on the latest developments in the Palestinian territory as well as efforts made to push the peace process forward and to stop the Israeli ongoing aggression.

Head of the PLO negotiations affairs Saeb Erikat told a press conference following the meeting that the meeting was fruitful, pointing out that the meeting focused on launching a meaningful peace process that leads to the implementation of the Bush vision of two state solution as well as the Road Map and the Arab Peace Initiative.

He said that President Abbas warned of the collapse of the PNA's institutions due to the Israel continued closure.

For her part, Bakoyannis stressed her country's support to President Abbas and his efforts for peace, pointing out that Greece, as part of the EU, views that it is ripe time to achieve peace.

She urged the Palestinian and Israeli parts to continue peace negotiations, affirming it that the Palestinian people should enjoy the right of independence.
