PARIS, June 9, 2007, (WAFA)-French Communist Party said that the conflict in the Middle East and the issue in Palestine are still going on and the conflict remains dramatically unsettled.

In a press release on the 40 years long occupation, the Party said that it is not enough that the UN resolutions enjoining Israel to evacuate the occupied territories are not implemented by the leaders of this country, but furthermore all the opportunities of a negotiated issue ended in failures.

"To the permanent and intensive purchase of colonization, real dispossession of the Palestinian people, accelerated by the edification of the annexing wall, was added the accumulation of more and more brutal practices of the military occupation forces: destructions of houses and cultivations, permanent locking down of the territories, systematic repression, aimed assassinations …Today there are some 11,000 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails, nearly a third of them being members of the legislative body," according to press release.

It added that the today's situation is alarmingly serious. For the Palestinians, the colonization, the wall, the dividing up of the Palestinian territory are putting in danger the prospect of an independent State within the 1967 boarders, with East-Jerusalem as capital city, the Israeli authorities refuse to the Palestinian refugees the right to return and every negotiation about the implementation of this right. They even reject any exchange of prisoners. In the Palestinian refugees' camps, in Lebanon and elsewhere, the conditions are deeply destabilized.

"In presence of such a tragic deadlock, the French Communist Party wants to emphasize the fundamental responsibility of the members of the UN's Security Board, but also the responsibility of the Europeans. The demands for a political solution, by enforcement of the UN's resolutions, are now essential. The new French Authorities must undertake any initiative needed to obtain the convening of an International Conference under the aegis of the United Nations," it said.

French Communist Party concluded as saying that It is of greatest significance for all the peoples living in the Middle East, the Mediterranean area and in Europe, that a real peace prospect could be achieved, by enforcement of the law and respecting everybody's rights, especially the national rights of the Palestinian people.
