Israel intercepts aid vessels bound for Gaza Strip in international waters near Greece

ATHENS, April 30, 2026 (WAFA) – Israel has intercepted aid vessels bound for the Gaza Strip in international waters near Greece, organizers said on Thursday.

The organizers slammed the move as an escalation of Israel’s impunity.

The Global Sumud Flotilla initiative explained that Israel seized control of the vessels hundreds of miles away from Gaza.

In a statement, the group stated, "This is piracy,” adding: “This is the unlawful seizure of human beings on the open sea near Crete, an assertion that Israel can operate with total impunity, far beyond its own borders, with no consequences."

It is noteworthy that a second flotilla carrying humanitarian aid set sail for the Gaza Strip from Barcelona, Spain, on April 12, in an attempt to break the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation.
