RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 2, 2020 (WAFA) – As more cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) are reported in Palestine, with a total of 160 cases until 10:00 pm local time on April 2, 2020, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh ordered today further restrictions on the movement of the public in all the governorates of Palestine.
Under the new restrictions, approved during a meeting at the Prime Minister‘s Office with the heads of the security forces and the ministers of health and labor in Ramallah, people will only be allowed to move within their communities for urgent matters from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. In addition, all exempted life-saving facilities like bakeries and grocery stores will be shut down after 5:00 pm every day but with the exception of pharmacies.
The meeting also discussed ways of dealing with thousands of Palestinian workers returning from their workplace from Israel, an epicenter of the disease, to their homes in the West Bank.
During the meeting, Shtayyeh said that the government had asked the Israeli authorities to test all Palestinian workers for the novel virus prior to their return to the West Bank, or otherwise organize their return in separate groups so that the Palestinian Ministry of Health will be able to test them for the disease and prevent further outbreaks across the territory.
