RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 (WAFA) – The coronavirus pandemic continued to dominate today’s headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies, with each one highlighting a different topic on the disease.
The main front page story in al-Ayyam daily focused on the situation of Palestinian workers in Israel and said that Israel keeps throwing ill workers on the Palestinian side of the border, which prompted Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh to call on the workers to return to their homes.
Talking on this topic, al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said the workers were running away from their workplaces because their Israeli employers had not provided them with the least necessities of a decent stay.
Al-Quds said a new case of coronavirus of a woman in Ramallah was recorded yesterday in Palestine raising the total to 60.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused its main front page story on a letter by President Mahmoud Abbas to the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres proposing the creation of an international mechanism to discuss and deal with the coronavirus crisis.
These topics were also reported in all three dailies, which also included stories on the disease in Israel, other neighboring countries and the world in general.
In other news, al-Hayat al-Jadida also reported on the Israeli army shooting and injuring yesterday of a Palestinian youth near Ramallah under the pretext he was throwing rocks at settler vehicles on the road.
Al-Quds said two Palestinians were injured in an attack by Israeli settlers near Ramallah and land was razed near Nablus.
It said the European Union provided $82 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Al-Ayyam said Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have closed their sections and returned their food portions to protest their treatment as Prime Minister Shtayyeh called on the Red Cross to intervene on behalf of the 5000 Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
It said the Finance Ministry issued a set of procedures to ease the work of the private sector.
