JERUSALEM, Friday, January 31, 2020 (WAFA) – At least 10 worshipers were injured, one of them seriously, at predawn today as Israeli occupation forces attacked hundreds of worshipers who converged to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem to perform dawn prayer, medical sources said.
Israeli police attacked the worshipers and fired rubber-coated rounds at them, injuring at least 10, one of them in the head. The police then forced all the worshipers to leave the compound and detained three of them.
Police also tightened restrictions around the Old City of Jerusalem, where the compound is located, and searched the ID cards of worshipers coming from Arab towns in Israel and East Jerusalem.
Yesterday, Israeli intelligence services sent hundreds of SMSs to Palestinians threatening them in case of “committing any breach of law” during prayers at the holy Islamic site.
Earlier this month, Palestinians launched the “Great Fajr Campaign”, calling on people to pray at dawn, fajr in Arabic, in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, with a view of defying Israel’s attempts to enforce a spatial and temporal division of the holy sites between Muslims and Jewish settlers.
