Foreign Ministry: Escalation of forced evictions in occupied Jerusalem requires international action to protect Palestinian presence

RAMALLAH, March 27, 2026 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Friday condemned the escalation by Israeli occupation authorities of forced eviction measures against the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem, including the recent displacement of 15 families from their homes in the Batn al-Hawa area of Silwan, and the issuance of immediate, non-appealable demolition orders for seven homes in the town of Qalandiya. The ministry stressed that these measures require an international stance to protect the Palestinian presence.

The ministry affirmed that what is taking place in occupied Jerusalem is part of a plan to Judaize the city, displace the Palestinian people—the indigenous inhabitants—and impose illegal realities aimed at altering the city’s demographic composition in the near term.

It also warned that more than 200 Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, comprising around 900 citizens, face the risk of forced displacement and imminent eviction due to lawsuits, most of which are filed by terrorist colonial associations before Israeli courts.

According to the ministry, these courts are used as tools to entrench an illegal and unprecedented reality and to grant it false legitimacy in the city, serving as instruments of the occupation.

The ministry called on the international community, including all states and international organizations, to take firm and more decisive steps to prevent the continuation of forced displacement against the Palestinian people, including activating diplomatic pressure tools and strengthening international presence on the ground to provide protection for the Palestinian people.

It also urged support for efforts to safeguard Palestinian rights, ensure they are not undermined under any pretext, prevent forced displacement, and halt attempts to alter the demographic reality or the status and character of the holy city, and to consider all measures and actions by the Israeli occupation null, void, and without legal effect.

The ministry affirmed that it will continue its efforts at all political, diplomatic, and legal levels to mobilize the broadest international support to stop these crimes and violations, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure the protection of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
