ICRC warns of rapidly worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon

BEIRUT, March 27, 2026 (WAFA) – The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is deteriorating daily, with civilians bearing the heaviest burden, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Friday.

Nicolas Von Arx, the ICRC's regional director for the Near and Middle East, made the remarks following a meeting with Lebanese President Jouzeph Aoun at the Presidential Palace in Beirut, where they discussed the humanitarian impact of the ongoing Israeli aggression in Lebanon.

Von Arx noted that thousands of civilians have been displaced from their towns and villages and continue to suffer under evacuation orders and difficult living conditions.

He added that the ICRC continues its operations in the hardest-hit areas, working in coordination with the Lebanese Red Cross, the Lebanese army, and international forces in the south. Field teams remain deployed in southern areas such as Tebnine and Marjeyoun, where concerns are growing over interruptions to basic services.

Von Arx emphasized the need to protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and uphold international humanitarian law, including safeguarding vital infrastructure.
