Newspapers Review: Palestinian killed by Israeli army, dozens injured in Return March protests

RAMALLAH, Saturday, September 28, 2019 (WAFA) – A young Palestinian was killed and dozens were injured yesterday when Israeli army forces opened live fire and threw teargas and stun grenades at several thousand Palestinians who gathered at the Gaza border with Israel as part of the weekly March of Return protests, said the three Palestinian Arabic dailies in their main front page story today.

The papers highlighted the protests in Gaza and also in the West Bank, mainly in Kufr Qaddoum, and printed pictures of the protests with teargas filling the area.

The papers also said Israeli units broke by force the Friday prayer held in al-Sawahreh al-Sharqiyeh east of Jerusalem in protest against settlers setting up an illegal outpost on village land.

Al-Ayyam said many taking part in the prayer were injured when the Israeli forces broke the worship with force.

The paper also said the Israeli army turned over the body of Mohammad Adawi, 36, from Balata refugee camp in Nablus, to his family for proper burial after it has been held since January 21 when he was shot dead on allegation of stabbing attack at Hawwara checkpoint, south of Nablus.

It said the Sumrin family in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan is going through difficult times after an Israeli court ordered to turn their home over to Jewish settlers under the pretext the owner of the house, who died decades ago, is absent even though his inheritors still live in the house.

Al-Quds said an Egyptian delegation discussed in Israel the situation in Gaza in an effort to prevent any escalation on the ground.

It said Palestinians in Umm al-Fahm, a town inside Israel, demonstrated yesterday against rise in crime in the Arab areas in Israel and police apathy toward this phenomenon.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that his government is going to start preparing for general elections in the Palestinian areas in light of President Mahmoud Abbas’ call at the United Nations for his readiness to hold the elections.

It said Fatah Central Committee reiterated its support for the Egyptian role in ending the intra-Palestinian division.

It also said a Palestinian man was killed in a family feud in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

It said the Anglican Church in South Africa voted unanimously in support of the boycott of Israel movement, BDS.

The three papers also reported on efforts in the United State to impeach President Donald Trump.
